This covers the first item in the above list. This is where the web site is written and the words and pictures are
put together to form your web site.

There are two basic types of site that we can provide. Static and Dynamic sites. Choose which one you think you
require for your site. If your not sure, it's probably a static site.
Static Sites
The Static Site is the most common and contains words and images that are static in nature. That is they, don't
change much and the contents of the site are fairly stable. If your site provides information about your
company, your club or yourself, it is most likely that you will require a static site. This site is an example
static site.
The contents of static sites can be changed, it is however a manual operation and takes a little time. Pictures
and words need to be written, incorporated into the site and then published.
Dynamic Sites
These sites are more ambitious and require a significant amount of work to make them perform. They will have a
database at the back end that holds the information and some code that will interrogate the database and provide
an HTML page to the browser.
Typically, this would be used for a large volume site where the contents changed regularly, for instance a
catalogue. The database still has to be updated and published, but this is a much simpler exercise.
When you have your web site up and running, there are always changes that you will want to make to it and you
can make these changes as frequently as you wish. You can either let SurfingKids carry out the maintenance for
you or you can carry out the maintenance yourself.
If SurfingKids do the maintenance, you need to supply us with the appropriate wording and images that you would
like to see. We can also source images for you if required. This is charged at a fixed hourly rate.
If you wish to do the maintenance yourself, we will provide you with the appropriate publishing details for a
small fee, allowing you to change and upload the details for your site. We can also provide training in
web
design and maintenance.
While you can browse other peoples sites, if you want to have a presence on the web, you need to have a domain that
other people can browse.
You can purchase your own domain name for a small fee, either from ourselves or through one of the many domain
registration agents that you can find on the web. We have purchased
www.SurfingKids.co.uk and this is the site you are
viewing right now. Purchasing your domain gives you the right to that name on the internet and to have it
associated with your business or club.
Something you should bare in mind is that all of the common domain names have been taken. e.g.
www.Shops.co.uk, so you will have to be imaginative with your names. We can
help you search for names that are free.
When you purchase your Domain Name, you will be able to set up a number of e-mail addresses. e.g.
info@SurfingKids.co.uk,
courses@SurfingKids.co.uk, Fiona@SurfingKids.co.uk etc.
The domain can have any number of e-mail addresses associated with it. You can then either pick up your e-mail
through the domain or have it forwarded on to your current e-mail address. e.g. if you have a HotMail address,
then you could automatically forward the mail on to your current hot mail address.
The domain host, is the computer on the internet where you will put your web site. You basically rent the space on
the internet from a domain host for a period of time, usually by the year. This computer will have a continuous,
fast and reliable connection to the internet and is available to browse 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
The host that we use, allows you to have up to:
10Mb of disk space (A lot)
8Gb per month traffic (Again, this is a lot)
Unlimited e-mail addresses
You can have more space or traffic for a slightly higher rental charge, but I would be surprised if any small
business needed this.
Whole System Management
Let SurfingKids take over the management of your site for you. We will register your domain name for you (in your
name), purchase your domain hosting service, design your web site and publish it onto the internet. Further to that
we will provide a maintenance service for your site throughout the year.
